Abstract
Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) has become an essential component of modern healthcare by enabling rapid diagnostic testing near the patient and supporting timely clinical decision-making across hospital and community settings. The widespread adoption of POCT has highlighted its potential to improve accessibility, reduce turnaround times, and optimize patient management. However, the decentralized nature of POCT also introduces important challenges related to diagnostic quality, procedural errors, quality assurance, and operator competency. This essay discusses the expanding role of POCT in contemporary healthcare and reviews the principal factors influencing its safe and effective implementation. Particular attention is devoted to the importance of structured education and continuous professional training for healthcare professionals involved in POCT, including biomedical laboratory scientists, nurses, and physicians. Strengthening undergraduate education, postgraduate programs, and continuing professional development is essential to ensure appropriate use of POCT technologies, minimize diagnostic errors, and maintain high standards of patient safety and analytical quality. As technological innovation continues to expand the applications of decentralized diagnostics, integrating education, quality management, and multidisciplinary collaboration will be fundamental for the sustainable implementation of POCT within modern healthcare systems.
