Abstract

The management of infusion lines represents a crucial area of advanced nursing care, with a direct impact on patient safety, complication prevention, and quality of care. The procedure analyzed proposes an evidence-based operational model that integrates international guidelines (CDC, INS, epic3) with the NANDA‑-I, NOC, and NIC classifications, with the aim of standardizing clinical practices and reducing adverse events such as phlebitis, infiltration, occlusion, and CLABSI.

The study is based on a critical analysis of the procedure, which defines operational standards, professional responsibilities, maintenance techniques, component replacement frequencies, and monitoring strategies. The methodological approach integrates scientific evidence, levels of recommendation, and clinical rationales, resulting in a structured care model that is replicable across different settings.

The systematic adoption of high-efficacy interventions, including hand hygiene, vigorous disinfection of needleless connectors, and the SASH protocol, emerges as a determining factor in reducing healthcare-associated infections and maintaining device patency. The procedure, characterized by detailed operational steps and scientific rationales, promotes consistency of care, reduction of therapeutic errors, and improved patient safety.

The procedure analyzed represents a nursing gold standard, capable of combining methodological rigor, international evidence, and advanced competencies. Its implementation across different care settings can significantly contribute to CLABSI prevention, reduction of infusion-related complications, and an overall improvement in the quality of care, establishing itself as an essential tool for contemporary clinical practice and advanced nursing education.
